When to Visit Costa Rica: Month-by-Month Guide

There is no single best month. The Pacific dry season (roughly December–April) suits most first trips. The green season (roughly May–October) brings more rain and, on many Pacific stretches, fuller swell. The Caribbean follows its own calendar. Always check the forecast and tide before you paddle out.

Where is the best place to learn to surf in Costa Rica?

Tamarindo and Sámara in Guanacaste are the classic first-timer choices: plenty of schools and forgiving beach breaks. Jacó is the easiest from San José, and Playa Chaman near Uvita is a softer South Pacific option.

When is the best time to surf in Costa Rica?

Most first trips aim for the Pacific dry season, roughly December to April. The green season (roughly May to October) brings more rain and often fuller swell, so it suits surfers with some experience and a flexible plan.

How long is a surf lesson in Costa Rica?
